Mercury-in-glass thermometers still anchor some methods and incubator monitoring because their stability is genuinely excellent — but only while the column is continuous and the ice point hasn’t shifted. Aging bulbs and separation events change readings permanently, and regulatory pressure means every remaining mercury unit should be earning its keep.
