Approved Is Not the Same as Accurate
NTEP approval certifies a scale’s design for commercial use — it says nothing about whether your particular unit still weighs correctly after years of service. Scales used in buying and selling carry legal accuracy obligations, and routine calibration with certified test weights is how those obligations stay met between regulatory inspections.
We calibrate NTEP-approved scales with certified test weights — corner-load, repeatability, and linearity, as-found and as-left documented — with accredited certificates when the range is on our current PJLA scope, and non-accredited NIST-traceable calibration for larger scales. For placed-in-service and registration requirements specific to commercial use, check with the Alabama Weights and Measures program; our documentation supports the compliance file either way.
